I read the most heartbreaking article today and have to talk about. When it comes to politics, or anything related the Trump, I usually keep quiet online. I rarely post to Facebook or Twitter because I’ve realized that the internet has given everyone a microphone. Even to those people who want to spread hate. Now more than ever the internet has become a place for people to voice their opinions, and generally I can understand most of them — even if I don’t necessarily agree with them.
Of course there are still some perspectives that I simply cannot wrap my brain around. The question of gay marriage, for example. Abortion is another big one. Transgender rights. People who don’t believe in global warming. The reluctance to enforce stricter gun laws. Call me stupid, but I just don’t get it. Cruelty against another human being is NEVER the answer, but let’s be honest, none of us are completely innocent. We’ve all had moments of racism, homophobia, ageism, etc. I promise I’m getting to my point.
Animals don’t see what we see. They don’t see color, gender, money, the clothes you wear, the house you live in. They take what they need to survive the day and that’s it. They’re not greedy, or hateful, or spiteful, or malicious in any way. That’s why I love animals so much. It’s because THEY are completely innocent. The article I read today was titled, “Congress Just Made It Officially Legal To Kill Hibernating Bears.” Read it on the Huffington Post here.
As soon as I glanced at the title I felt tears swell up behind my eyes. Hunting is one of those matters that I can understand, but don’t agree with. I see it as a fucking dick measuring content and nothing more. Killing an animal for fun is not something I would ever be on board with. That being said, I can understand the thrill and excitement of stalking a live prey in their natural habitat. But this? Killing bears in THEIR SLEEP? That’s not hunting. I cannot think of anything more cowardly than murdering an animal, or person, in their most peaceful and innocent state.
It makes me sick to my stomach that someone could get off on such a thing. I don’t understand it and probably never will. The same way I don’t understand the recent church shooting in Texas, the Las Vegas concert shooting, the Manchester bombing, the terrorist attacks on London, the list goes on. If you don’t agree with any of this, that’s totally fine. I can’t force anyone to change their mind or behavior, but at least I can harbor kindness in my day-to-day life.
Whether you agree or disagree with this post, I’d love to hear what you think about congress’ latest action. Comment below!
